Community Outreach Projects - we develop services and projects that are tailored to the needs of the community.
We know that one of the main barriers to accessing specialist legal advice is that people don’t always recognise that their problem has a legal resolution. Providing people with specialist legal advice quickly so that we can support them to resolve their problem remains a priority for us.
North East Law Centre has taken a really positive and proactive approach to developing services that meet community needs in response to the Legal Aid Cuts implemented in 2012 and recent changes to the benefits system. Our Community Outreach Projects, have enabled us to explore new ways of working in the local community, empowering people to be more aware of their rights and to try to provide them with tools to challenge injustice themselves.

We now run advice sessions in partnership with a range of organisations, including: Wor Hoose, West End Refugee Service, Friends of the Drop In (Sunderland), Brunswick Methodist Church, and the Joseph Cowen Medical Centre; Riverside Health, West End Women and Girls, and St Martins’ Centre.
