Our Services
"One of the greatest challenges to accessing specialist legal advice is that people don’t always recognise that their problem has a legal resolution. Providing people with specialist legal advice quickly so that we can support them to resolve their problem remains a priority for us."
Support Us
"Without your support, we simply won’t be able to provide the range of free and affordable services that we do to the local community, you, your family and friends."

Education Law

Hero image

We believe the right to education is a fundamental human right and the North East Law Centre has a commitment to ensuring that those on the margins of society are supported to enforce their rights.

We offer specialist education law advice to the people of Newcastle and the surrounding areas. Areas of advice include:

  • School admission appeals
  • Exclusion appeals
  • Appeals relating to home-school transport
  • Complaints to the Local Government Ombudsman or Education Funding Agency

This is a growing service, which is funded by AB Charitable Trust to help us meet the increasing demand. Although the service is primarily targeted at people on low income, we do accept enquiries from anyone irrespective of their status or situation in order to determine how best to support or direct them.

We offer one-off advice and may be able to offer full legal assistance, dependent on our capacity.

Appointments are booked in advance and offered on a first come first served basis.  Usually, we offer telephone appointments first. Please call us on 0191 230 4777 or email [email protected]  if you would like one. At the earliest opportunity it is useful for us to know your child’s name and permanent address, the school in question and also to see a copy of the decision letter issued by the school or local authority.

Please note, we are currently unable to provide advice on Special Educational Needs (SEN) legal matters including:

  • Statements of special educational need
  • Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans
  • Appeals to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST)
