We believe that the right to education is a fundamental human right and have a commitment to ensuring that those on the margins of society are supported to enforce their rights.
What we do
We offer specialist education law advice to the people of Newcastle and the surrounding areas. Areas of advice include:
- school admission appeals
- exclusion appeals
- appeals relating to home-school transport
- complaints to the Local Government Ombudsman or Education Funding Agency
This is a growing service for which we now have funding from AB Charitable Trust to meet the increasing demand. Although the service is targeted at people on low income, however, we’ll accept enquiries from anyone irrespective of their means in order to determine how best to support or signpost them.
We offer one-off advice and may be able to offer a casework service depending on our capacity.
What we don't do
Unfortunately we are not currently able to advise on special education needs including:
- statements of special educational need
- Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans
- appeals to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST)
If you are looking for advice in this area, please try one of the websites links below. If you need specific legal advice, you could contact a private solicitor.
We don't advise schools.

How to contact us
Appointments are booked in advance and offered on a first come first served basis. Usually we offer telephone appointments first. Please call the office on 0191 230 4777 or email on [email protected] if you would like one.
At the earliest opportunity it is useful for us to know your child’s name and permanent address, the school in question and also to see a copy of the decision letter issued by the school or local authority.
