About Us
"Our model of legal support makes us stand out from the rest - we care about our clients’ situations and will help them as much as we can, through our free or affordable services."
Our Services
"One of the greatest challenges to accessing specialist legal advice is that people don’t always recognise that their problem has a legal resolution. Providing people with specialist legal advice quickly so that we can support them to resolve their problem remains a priority for us."
Support Us
"Without your support, we simply won’t be able to provide the range of free and affordable services that we do to the local community, you, your family and friends."

WE ARE 40 YEARS OLD - Come to Our Open Day on the 4th October 2019!

WE ARE 40 YEARS OLD - Come to Our Open Day on the 4th October 2019!

They say life begins at 40… and for the North East Law Centre that is certainly true!

North East Law Centre is now 40 years old and to celebrate, we would like to invite you to our open day on the 4th October 2019 at our offices in Mea House between 10am to 4pm.

Over 40 years ago, North East Law Centre was established to ensure that vulnerable people and people on low incomes in the area could access specialist legal advice to inform them about their rights and help them access justice when those rights were violated.

Today in 2019, we are still doing the same work. We are now one of a handful of not for profit provider of specialist legal advice in the North East. As the funding climate has become more difficult, we have seen our funding base reduce each year, but the demand for our service has increased. But thanks to the continued support from Newcastle City Council, Big Lottery, Lloyds Bank Foundation and other charitable trusts and Foundations, we have managed to increase access to justice year on year for the beneficiaries of our services.

We intend to be around for many years to come, but we need the help and support of current funders, local businesses and others so that we can continue the crucial work of supporting some of the most vulnerable in our society.

We had anticipated celebrating our 40th anniversary in style last year, but due to unforeseen circumstances including the extensive delay to acquiring our additional office space, we were unable to, we then decided to mark the milestone at a later date with several low-key events last year culminating with the open day on the 4th October 2019.

The open day is an opportunity for our clients (past and present), funders, project partners, former colleagues and anyone who has been associated with the Law Centre to pop in throughout the day, to meet the staff and some of our trustees over tea, coffee and other delights to discuss our work.

Whether you can attend the open day or otherwise, there are several ways to support our work including:

  • Follow us on Facebook (@NorthEastLawCentre) and twitter (@NELawCentre) to read regular updates about our work and information about campaigns we are involved in. Share these with your friends and colleagues. The more of us fighting for access to justice the better!
  • Become a friend of North East Law Centre – both organisations and individuals can do this and demonstrate that they share our goals. It helps us to keep in touch with you and to provide updates of our progress.
  • Consider volunteering with us, or if you are a lawyer, setting up a pro bono clinic with us: for details of our volunteering opportunities visit our website(
  • Become a trustee of the Law Centre and play a part in shaping its future.
  •  Make a donation to our work or set up payroll giving by visiting our website donations page

We really hope you can attend the open day but look forward to hearing from you sometime soon.  Please call me if you require additional information about the open day or the work of the Law Centre.

Kind regards

North East Law Centre
